Thomas 'TJ' Myers in "A Piece of My Heart" Theatre Production at Davis & Elkins College

2012 Oct 26

Davis & Elkins College student Thomas 'TJ' Myers is serving as assistant lighting designer and worked on set construction for the fall theatre production of "A Piece of My Heart" which will be presented October 25-27 and November 1-3 at 8 p.m. in the College's historic Boiler House Theatre in Elkins, West Virginia. A design and technical theatre major, Myers is the son of Robert and Kathryn Myers of Lisbon, MD.

Based on true stories of women who served as nurses, Red Cross "Donut Dollies," entertainers and WAC officers during the Vietnam War, "A Piece of My Heart" offers an intimate look inside the hearts and minds of six courageous women. This powerful, touching play by Shirley Lauro is produced by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc. The women present their personal journeys of innocence lost, ruthless survival, and gracious transformation as each one struggles to find her way back to the home she left behind. Spanning a 20-year period, the story takes viewers from the Vietnam War of the 1960s to the moving site of the Vietnam Memorial in the 1980s. As a tale of courage, loyalty, love and loss, "A Piece of My Heart" honors the veterans of Vietnam and reveals to our civilian world the challenges faced by veterans returning from combat both then and now.
