Markita Prieto Attends WV Reading Conference

Markita Prieto, a junior elementary education major at Davis & Elkins College in Elkins, WV, attended the West Virginia Reading Association's 57th Annual Conference at The Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, WV, November 15-16. Prieto and other students attended with professor Sue Talbott, a past president of the Association. Prieto is the daughter of Stan and Kim Swick of Belington, WV.

The conference, titled "Olympians for Reading: Carrying the Torch for Literacy," featured group sessions, keynote speakers, authors' luncheons and an awards ceremony. Group sessions were led by individuals committed to education who presented information about topics such as Pediatric Literacy Programs, Rubric-Driven Lessons, Technology Tools, the WV Active Schools Campaign and Creative Writing.

The Davis & Elkins College Teacher Education Program prepares competent, caring and qualified teachers with certification in 18 teaching areas, including Elementary Education, Physical Education and other specializations for secondary school teaching. All D&E teaching specialization programs are accredited by the West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE) and the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC).
